Also slight fact check, Mario did not in fact die in the opening of Paper Mario 64, he was only 'gravely injured' which I assume means he would've died shortly after had the star spirits not intervened. But my point still stands that dying and coming back with 1ups or life shrooms is a common thing in Mario games, Mario getting killed has never really been much of a big deal when resurrection fungi exist.
