1. Not pre-washing: Flannel tends to shrink significantly, so make sure to prewash your fabric in warm or hot water to insure the proper fit.
2. Not Adjusting the Stitch Length: It’s important to use a slightly longer stitch length to avoid puckering. I like 3.0 mm.
3. Skipping Seam Finishing: Flannel frays easily, so make sure to finish your seams with a serger, zigzag stitch, or pinking shears.
4. Ironing Your Fabric: Instead, press it! AND avoid using steam. This will cut down on any stretching or warping.
5. Not cleaning your machine after you sew with flannel: Flannel produces tons of lint! Make sure you do a quick clean of your machine, especially your bobbin case.
