Drive in BMW 320is (E30) on alpine road over the Nufenen Pass from Ulrichen to All' Acqua (Bedretto). Excuse the vibration noise, bonnet sound damping was touching the second microphone under the bonnet. Description is long, don't press show more if you dislike to scroll too much for comment section. :)
Day of the week: Saturday in early July.
Start: approximately 8:00AM
Weather conditions: dry, very sunny, mild temperature (morning in the Alps is never that warm).
Tires were hard to warm up in the shadows, asphalt temperature was around 10°C.
White patches on the surrounding mountains are snow.
1:45 Start of the road, engine still not at optimal temperature
6:25 The fun part starts
8:28 Serpentine part
14:25 Nufenenpass
16:25 Down hill start, a bit of traffic at the beginning
Car's specification: 320is with S14, Carbon Air Intake, Schrick Cams, Evo2 muffler, KW Koni Yellow suspension.
This video was taken on alpine roads in Switzerland. Speed limits are 80km/h outside populated areas (more stringent than any surrounding country and speeding tickets are extremely expensive). I cannot stress enough that it is a public road. This means that the traffic varies depending on weather conditions, time of the day and time of the year.
Correspondingly, always adapt your speed to the current situation and show respect to other traffic participants.
Two buddies were driving motorcycles with 650ccm: Suzuki SV650 and Kawasaki Z650, both approximately 70HP (50kW) and performance-wise they were on par with my 320is.
**Always drive safely and responsibly!**
Responsibility lies only with the driver. I take no liability for caused damage, injuries or even death.
Few advices for newbies but also a reminder for experienced drivers:
ALWAYS drive under your driver limits, never push the limits on public roads.
ALWAYS foresee - try looking as far ahead as possible; when taking serpentine turn look around the corner.
ALWAYS predict for other traffic participants: cyclists, tractors, people, animals!
DO NOT make blind overtakes, no matter how good you know the road.
NEVER overtake if you do not see the road ahead. Cancel already started overtaking if you are not 100% sure you can overtake. 99% is NOT enough!
DO NOT drive over the speed limit. When there is no road signs with speed limit designation, speed limit in Austria, where this was filmed, is 100km/h (60mph).
DO NOT underestimate gravity on the slopes. It has a big influence on braking on downhills and acceleration on uphills.
DO NOT drive recklessly - pavement surface varies in each serpentine twist. One late braking or slightly overdone throttle actuation can quickly end in a really bad day for all traffic participants. Consequences are vast.
TRY to use lower gears for downhills as it helps braking a lot. Brakes cook easily when using constantly on long downhills.
SHOW respect to other traffic participants - not everyone has the same ability to accelerate, brake, concentrate or to take turns.
