►The front brakes on your BMW X3 or X4 are responsible for a majority of the braking force. Therefore, the condition of your front brake pads and rotors directly affects how well your BMW stops. Worn pads and rotors are no good; replacing them is the only way to restore your braking power. Luckily, replacing your front pads and rotors is one of the simpler service jobs you can tackle at home to save some money.
A brake pad wear sensor monitors brake pad life. When worn down enough, the sensor trips a warning light on the dashboard, letting you know it's time to replace them. However, the rotors can suffer premature wear that sees them develop deep grooves or a warped friction surface. In that case, replacing the pads and rotors earlier is best.
