In this episode (Part 4 of the mezzanine floor build), I fabricate and install the centre support post that carries a large part of the load.
I start by measuring the required height, then cut the post to length, including cutting the angle on the top. I CNC plasma cut the end plate and weld it to the post, along with the base plate. After deciding the base needed extra strength, I cut additional plates and welded them onto the base plate.
Once the fabrication was complete, I wire-wheeled the post and painted it before installation. The post was then positioned and fixed in place. I mag-drilled the rafter and bolted the top plate of the post directly into it, before filling under the base plate with grout for full support.
With the post fixed, I used a laser level to mark the correct height for the mezzanine beam bracket. I then fabricated the bracket, mag-drilled the post, and bolted the bracket in place, ready for the floor beams to go in.
This is a key structural part of the build and a big step towards getting the mezzanine floor installed.
Hope you enjoy the video.
