HOURS DON'T MATTER ON A TRACTOR! HOW MANY IS TOO MANY? 👨‍🌾🚜👩‍🌾

How many hours is considered high hours on a tractor? When is the threshold of too many hours before you should rule out buying a tractor? Is there any easy answer? Is it 500 hours, 1000 hours, 2,000 hours, 10,000 hours?!? I think the real answer to that question doesn't involve hours at all.

Rather, focus more on the condition of the tractor, oil levels and colors. Leaky seals, greased fittings, air filters, wear on the tires, condition of the loader and bucket, and more! Generally, folks that take care of the cosmetics on their machine will also take care of the mechanical items as well.

Now, all that said, I'd like to give you my own answer to that question as far as hours are concerned. I generally stick with purchasing tractors under 500 hours. Yes, I will have tractors for sale with higher hours on occasion for a couple reasons including trade-ins from customers as well as very clean, well kept examples that offer excellent value for my customers.

I stick with 500 hours and less because these machines are still very early in their life cycle as far as maintenance requirements. Typically, they've only required two engine oil changes and perhaps only one hydraulic oil change by that hour mark. Typically folks tend to take care of their equipment when a machine is new to them and might let maintenance slide as ownership progresses.
