Need to replicate helical motion in your structural model? This tutorial demonstrates how to build a screw joint in Ansys Mechanical Workbench so that rotational input at one body drives linear translation in another.
You’ll learn how to:
Scope coincident vertices and create a Joint Coordinate System aligned to the screw axis
Link rotational and translational DOFs with the Screw Joint option (1 rev → lead distance)
Check joint behavior in the Joint Tool and troubleshoot over-constraint warnings
Apply torque or angular velocity and review resulting axial forces and displacements
This tutorial was uploaded in 2017, so the ribbon layout has changed, but every step still works in current releases.
