An essential preparation for the Journey of a Lifetime! Ramon Harvey, a Fellow of the Cambridge Muslim College, here explains the deeper mysteries of the Hajj, following the interpretation of Hujjat al-Islam al-Ghazali. Beyond the outward rituals there is an inner shaping of the soul. The meaning of the Ka’ba is discussed, together with the history and holiness of the Haram, and the importance of the various outward actions each of which has its spiritual effect. Understanding this will help to strengthen our yearning for the Hajj and enhance the benefits which it confers.

The lecture was filmed at the Trebbuser Mevlevihane, a Muslim retreat centre in Germany. It includes Ali Keeler’s recital of the Qur’an and of part of the famous Qasida Mimiyya of Ibn al-Qayyim, together with a unique tenor-baritone duet presenting Goethe’s celebrated poem in praise of the Holy Prophet.
