IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE... A1GP in Singapore

Here's the A1 Onboard lap at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in its current 4.940 km configuration (after the circuit was revised, with new straight replacing the Turn 16–19 series of corners, following the demolition of The Float at Marina Bay), which means the Crashgate site is also gone.

The circuit is so unforgiving, especially given the hot and humid conditions of the Singapore climate, that it was twice as hard to negotiate as the more famous Monaco street circuit and unexpectedly physical – requiring double the amount of energy over a single lap as compared to the Monaco circuit.

In this onboard, Christian Murchison will drive through the circuit using the Lola A1GP car with the 2006 A1 Team Singapore livery.

Back in 2006, Singapore opted to enter the team for A1. At that time, the Singaporean authorities turned down the offer (to host a race in a street circuit for A1) that it was too risky to close the city for a street race run by an unproven championship. But the team didn't even complete its sole season in A1 because of financial reason.

Just a year later, Singapore was confirmed to host a Formula 1 race in 2008, in this street circuit (in its original layout, when The Float and the Singapore Sling were standing).

Shortly, the race was:
1. the first night race ever in F1,
2. the 800th Grand Prix in F1's history, and
3. the infamous Crashgate occured.
