In April, 2022 my wife and I traveled to Peru, the first time in South America for either one of us. We spent a few days in Lima before traveling on to Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca empire. From there we did 2 treks; the first began with the Salkantay trek which merged onto the classic Inca Trail leading to Machu Pichu. The second trek took us to Ausungate, a peak sacred to the Incas, ending at the magnificent Rainbow Mountain.
