Crazy Pebble Steel charging issue

Got my Pebble Steel replacement watch today because my other Pebble steel stopped charging almost exactly one year after I got it. And then things got weird ;-p
So when my Pebble didn't charge anymore I contacted Pebble and after some trouble-shooting tips, it still would not charge. So they send a new charging cable free of charge (very nice Pebbel!) but that didn't work either.
Pebble then said they would send me a replacement, free of charge (thats what I call good customer service), and I got it today.. And then the strangest thing happened
When comparing the new one to the old ine I saw the buttons where different and also the backlight is uneven/bleeding. So that was a bit of a bummer. Then I held my two watches together and suddenly the old one turned on and started charging again?
Thought it was just accident and it did stop charging right away. But then I found out it did charge again. But it ONLY charges when I hold them together and they touch each other.. Say what?
