Woman sentenced to 8 years for attempting to assassinate Brett Kavanaugh
According to ABC News:
Sophie Roske, who pleaded guilty to attempting to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, was sentenced Thursday to 8 years and 1 month in prison. Roske, a transgender woman, was arrested in 2022 outside Kavanaugh’s Maryland home armed with a gun, knife, and burglary tools. She told police she planned to target Kavanaugh over his potential stance on overturning Roe v. Wade and Texas school shootings. During sentencing, Judge Deborah Boardman called her “a person who took full responsibility for her actions,” but also noted the harm inflicted on Kavanaugh’s family. Her attorneys argued she changed her mind during the attack, and her family described her as “completely out of character.” Department of Justice officials criticized the sentence as “woefully insufficient,” and indicated they plan to appeal.
