2026 Renault Espace - Can 7 Seats Be This Efficient?

The 2026 Renault Espace just did something radical. After 40 years as Europe's minivan icon, Renault killed the people carrier and built a seven-seat SUV instead. The question is whether this transformation actually works, or if they just destroyed a legend for marketing reasons.

Under the hood sits Renault's E-Tech Full Hybrid 200 system combining a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with two electric motors for 200 total horsepower. The clutchless multi-mode automatic transmission delivers smooth shifts while achieving 4.6 to 5.0 liters per 100 kilometers, giving you up to 1,100 kilometers of range without plugging in. Zero to 100 takes 8.8 seconds with a top speed of 174 kilometers per hour, plus four-wheel steering cuts the turning circle to just 10.4 meters. Inside you get dual 12-inch screens, panoramic Solarbay glass roof, optional heated massaging seats, and genuine seven-seat capability with 692 to 2,224 liters of cargo space. Swiss pricing starts at 49,400 Francs, positioning it about 2,000 to 3,000 euros below competitors like the Nissan X-Trail e-Power and Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid.
