In this video you will learn how to calculate expectation values for momentum or position when given a wavefunction. This is accomplished by sandwiching the appropriate operator between the complex conjugate and the original wavefunction and integrating.
This is an important procedure in quantum mechanics and it yields the average value of repeated measurements on an identically prepared quantum system. Importantly, this is not the same as repeated measurements on the same exact system. If you repeat the same exact same measurement on a quantum system you will actually get the exact same result. This is due to the collapse of the wavefunction, at least under the most traditional interpretation of quantum mechanics.
