关羽（160 —220年 ），字云长，本字长生 ，河东郡解县（今山西省运城市盐湖区解州镇）人。东汉末年名将。
爱好《左传》，因事亡命涿郡。跟从刘备起兵，镇压黄巾起义。刘备夺取徐州后，行下邳太守。建安五年（200年），曹操东征刘备，关羽兵败被俘，暂时投靠曹操。参加官渡之战，诛杀颜良，解白马之围，受封汉寿亭侯。得知刘备下落后，前往投奔，依附荆州牧刘表。建安十三年（208年），曹操取得荆州后，随刘备进驻夏口。赤壁之战后，参与攻取江南诸郡，授荡寇将军、襄阳太守。刘备平定益州后，都督荆州诸军事。建安二十年（215年），驱逐孙权所置的长沙、零陵、桂阳三郡长官。建安二十四年（219年），刘备称王后，拜前将军，围攻樊城，水淹于禁统帅的七军，斩杀敌将庞德，威震华夏。面对名将徐晃的进攻以及孙权的偷袭，败走麦城（今湖北当阳县），同年十二月遇害于临沮。蜀汉景耀三年（260年 ），追谥为壮缪侯 。

Guan Yu (160-220), courtesy name Yunchang, original name Changsheng, was born in Jie County, Hedong Prefecture (now Jiezhou Town, Yanhu District, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province). He was a famous general in the late Eastern Han Dynasty. He was fond of Zuo Zhuan and fled to Zhuo Prefecture due to some events. He followed Liu Bei to raise troops and suppress the Yellow Turban Rebellion. After Liu Bei captured Xuzhou, he served as the governor of Xiapi. In the fifth year of Jian'an (200), Cao Cao went east to attack Liu Bei, Guan Yu was defeated and captured, and temporarily surrendered to Cao Cao. He participated in the Battle of Guandu, killed Yan Liang, and lifted the siege of Baima, and was granted the title of Marquis of Han Shou Ting. After learning about Liu Bei's whereabouts, he went to surrender and attached himself to Liu Biao, the governor of Jingzhou. In the thirteenth year of Jian'an (208), after Cao Cao captured Jingzhou, he followed Liu Bei to Xiakou. After the Battle of Chibi, he participated in the capture of various counties in the south of the Yangtze River and was awarded the title of General Dangkou and Governor of Xiangyang. After Liu Bei pacified Yizhou, he was the commander-in-chief of all military affairs in Jingzhou. In the 20th year of Jian'an (215 AD), he expelled the governors of Changsha, Lingling and Guiyang counties appointed by Sun Quan. In the 24th year of Jian'an (219 AD), after Liu Bei became king, he was appointed as the former general, besieged Fancheng, flooded the seven armies commanded by Yu Jin, killed the enemy general Pang De, and shocked China. Facing the attack of the famous general Xu Huang and the sneak attack of Sun Quan, he fled to Maicheng (now Dangyang County, Hubei Province), and was killed in Linju in December of the same year. In the third year of Jingyao (260 AD) of Shu Han, he was posthumously named Zhuangmiao Hou.
Guan Yu treated soldiers well and despised scholars and officials, and was known for his loyalty and righteousness in later generations. He was respected as "Guan Gong" by the people, and many courts of successive dynasties praised him. During the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, he was respected as the "Martial Saint", with the same status as the "Literary Saint" Confucius. In the novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", he was listed as the first of the "Five Tiger Generals" and used the Qinglong Yanyue Sword. Mao Zonggang called him the "righteousness" of the "three wonders" in the novel.
