Shirati Luo Voice Jazz Band são uma das raízes da música identitária do Quénia: fundado por Daniel Owino Misiani, conhecido como o "avô" do género musical benga, o grupo foi um dos mais importantes nomes da cultura queniana da segunda metade do século passado. "O Benga é um género musical da música popular queniana. Evoluiu entre o final dos anos 1940 e final dos anos 1960, em Nairobi. Os "Luo", grupo étnico que habia, entre outras zonas, o Quénia, há muito tempo que tocam uma lira de oito cordas chamada nyatiti no seu quotidiano, e "guitarristas" da área tentaram imitar o síncope das melodias do instrumento. Luo, in the name, refers to a specific place.

“Benga is a musical genre of Kenyan popular music. It evolved between the late 1940s and the late 1960s in Nairobi. The Luo—an ethnic group that inhabits, among other regions, Kenya—have long played an eight-string lyre called the nyatiti in their daily lives, and guitarists from the area tried to imitate the syncopation of the instrument’s melodies. It is considered a highly danceable genre, where the importance of the guitars—as well as their distorted accompaniment—is central, and that is where its infectious power begins.

This single is a release that was marketed in Mozambique in 1974; the song titles are not identified on the record, but you don’t need to know a thing to lose yourself in these labyrinthine atmospheres of much repetition and ‘un-repetition.’"
