The best decision I made as a young adult was not buying a new car. A new car would've trapped me in car loan debt and changed the course of my life for the worse. Instead I chose to buy an old piece of crap car, a 68 Mustang to be exact, which taught me a lot about auto repair, about myself, and gave me the freedom I desired. I can't imagine what cascade of life choices would've followed had I taken on a car loan, but I could see that a shiny new car changed the lives of my peers. I knew people who took on more hours at work and quit college to pay their car loans. They never went back to school and got trapped in a life they never wanted because of the poor decision to buy a new car.
