David Duval reached the pinnacle of his career at The 130th Open Championship in 2001, winning the Claret Jug on his seventh attempt.
Of the 156 players who entered, 15 were past champions, including Seve Ballesteros, Sir Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods.
After making the cut at St Annes Golf Club, Duval shot 65 on day three to put him into serious contention for the championship.
The American was tied for the lead with Alex Cejka, Bernhard Langer and Ian Woosnam going into the final round. It was shaping up to be one of the closest final days in Open history. But one thing was for certain - there was going to be a first time major winner crowned at St Annes.
Take the time to relive an historic Open moment and Duval lifting the Claret Jug.
