Day 2 of the Chasecation with my friend Cort. We started out by following some fairly promising looking storms north of the Kansas/Oklahoma border. As we meandered around the highly sheared updrafts which were basically sheared almost flat, hoping for something, a much larger, beefier storm began blowing up to the south near Woodward, Oklahoma. We drove down there (along with a bunch of other chasers) and witnessed a very robust storm with a large updraft base going up north of town. We sat around for awhile watching it, and it became eerie when the tornado sirens started going off. We drove through the city and ended up setting up to the E of Woodward just off of US 412 due to limited road network closer to the storm. We watched as the nearly stationary supercell continued to gather strength, and eventually the wall cloud wrapped up and put down a tornado. This tornado damaged a couple of outbuildings, but mainly stayed over fields, so it got an EF-0 rating. It was a multi vortex at times as it sort of meandered around the countryside. The sunset lit up the storm, and during rope out stage, the sunset made the storm and tornado glow. It was a fun, laid back sort of chase day.
