[JAPAN] Serena Motola Tribute - Supermodel, Actress, and Singer

This video introduces you to Ms. Serena Motola, one of upcoming hopeful supermodels and actresses in Japan. Serena was born and grew up in Tokyo, the world's largest, most popular cities. Her mother is a Japanese housewife and her father, an Italian who holds U.S. citizenship; he is a business owner in Japan. Serena is an only child.
Serena is a girl with over 10 years of experience with cameras. She (6) became interested in photography when her Japanese grandfather lent her his Canon camera. Serena was fasinated and started taking pictures under the tutaledge of her grandpa. Soon, her parents bought a Canon camera for her as her birthday present. When asked about the appeal of photography, Serena said, "It's the ability to express your sensibilities and thoughts visually." She will be serializing her work twice a month on "Soen Online" from May 2018 under the title "Serena Motola: Memories of Colors."
Serena said she hated her distinctive freckles in elementary and junior high school, but after she started working as a fashion model, she began to see them as her own individuality and charm point as she had more opportunities to be told so.
Regarding acting, Serena said, "I want to become an actress who can express herself more freely and play a variety of roles"; she cited actresses like Yuu Aoi and Hikari Mitsushima as her goals.
Serena's hobbies are taking photos, dancing, and shopping. She became interested in dance after her friend who was taking dance lessons taught her; she began taking hip-hop lessons in the 6th grade. After entering high school, Serena joined the dance club. She says she is not good at the free-style dances that are created freely by individuals.
Serena had dreamed of becoming a supermodel since she was a little kid and had been applying for top magazines with her parents. In 2014, as soon as Serena passed the exam to enter a high school, she celebrated with her best buddies in Harajuku, Tokyo. There and then, she was scouted. Serena is unusually tall for her age group and stood out. She told the Agency she would ask her parents. With her parents' backing, she told the Agency that she would like to try for acting as well. Serena thus joined the third batch of actress training project.
Serena was selected to appear as a model in the magazine "Soen," and made her debut in the "Newcomer Special" of the Jan 2015 issue of the magazine, released in Nov of the same year. She was also selected to appear on the cover visual of RADWIMPS' album "Ningen Kaika" released in Nov 2016. Serena graced the cover of the newly redesigned 0th issue of Shiseido's corporate culture magazine "Hanatsubaki." Her uniquely image and overwhelming impact, which makes her "unforgettable at first sight," has led to her being selected as the main visual for various advertisements for famous department stores and apparel brands, as well as in fashion magazines.
In March 2017, Serena was chosen as the key visual for "Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO 2017 A/W." She also became an exclusive model for the magazine from the May issue of "Soen" released in the same month. After graduating from high school in 2017, Serena entered the Fashion Distribution Department of Bunka Fashion College, but soon she quit to focus on her own original works.
In March 2018, Serena made her Paris Collection debut as a show model for the fashion brand "UNDERCOVER" at the "Paris Collection 2018-19A/W." Serena was chosen as the subject of actress Fumi Nikaido's first photobook as a photographer, and released the photobook "Monthly Serena Motola Summer Photos Fumi Nikaido" in April of the same year.
In June 2018, Serena made her acting debut in the film "Girl Encounter," in which she was selected from over 200 applicants to play the co-starring role with Moeka Hoshi, marking her first leading role in a feature film. In Aug of the same year, Serena made her first appearance in an NHK television drama, "Transparent Cradle," in which she played a difficult role, attracting attention and earning the expectations of her producer, who said she might become an "interesting presence" as an actress in the future. In Jan 2019, Serena made her first appearance in a commercial television drama in "Les Miserables: The Endless Journey." In Feb 2020, Serena won an audition out of 2,000 people to play the lead role in the film "Love Love Douhua."
In July 2019, Serena released a cover of Fishmans' hit song "Ikareta Baby" on a 12-inch single and via music download, making her debut as a singer.

In 2020, her starring film "Kaze no Denwa" was officially entered into the "Generation" category at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival. Serena also attended the premiere screening in Feb. The film won the International Jury Special Award, which is equivalent to the runner-up prize.
