The Arab Political Science Network (APSN), in collaboration with the Arab Reform Initiative (ARI), presents this recorded session “Rebel Governance, Post-Conflict Legitimacy, and State-Building in Syria”, as part of the series “Politics of Transition in Syria.”
🗓️ Held on: December 16, 2025
🌍 Language: Arabic (with English interpretation)
This webinar is part of the ongoing Politics of Transition in Syria series, which brings together Syrian and international scholars to examine the complex challenges shaping Syria’s post-conflict trajectory.
This session focuses on rebel governance and the post-conflict trajectories of state-building, placing the Syrian experience within a broader comparative perspective. The discussion explores the institutional legacies of rebel governance and how these legacies shape possibilities for political stability and legitimacy in post-insurgency contexts.
The conversation examines key questions, including: under what conditions can rebel groups that assume state power achieve widespread legitimacy? And how can inclusive and sustainable state-building processes emerge in the aftermath of conflict?
