Keylong is the administrative center of the Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh, India. It's a high-altitude town known for its stunning mountain landscapes, ancient monasteries, and as a key stop on the Manali-Leh Highway.
Getting There
By Road: The most common way to reach Keylong is by road from Manali. The journey is about 115 km and takes 3-5 hours via the Atal Tunnel, which has made Keylong accessible year-round. This route is a major improvement over the treacherous Rohtang Pass, which used to close for a large part of the year due to heavy snowfall. You can take a public HRTC bus, a private taxi, or even a shared jeep from Manali.
By Air: The nearest airport is Kullu-Manali Airport (Bhuntar Airport), approximately 175 km away. From there, you would need to hire a taxi or take a bus to Manali and then continue to Keylong.
By Train: The nearest major railway station is Chandigarh, which is about 370 km away. From there, you would need to travel by road to Manali and then on to Keylong.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Keylong is from May to October. During this period, the weather is pleasant, and the roads are generally open. The Atal Tunnel has now made it possible to visit during the winter months for those who wish to experience the snow-covered landscape.
