Family trip to Japan October 2024 Part 4. A short walk from the Apa Hotel in Kyoto is the spectacular Kyoto Aquarium with it's jellyfish and amphibians and Rail Museum which houses retired locomotives and passenger trains and carriages.
Excuse me for any mistakes in my speech. Camera may be a bit shaky.
0:06 We are at the Kyoto Aquarium where they have a large variety of fish, jellyfish marine birds and marine mammals.
0:17 Small arena with indo pacific bottlenose dolphins.
0:26 The underwater viewing areas are very relaxing.
2:42 The box jellyfish area.
4:25 But there are also amphibans here too. The main reason why I visited here. This is a japanese giant salamander, one of the
largest amphibain species in the world and can live past 70 years of age. This example was over 1 metre long.
5:09 These are young giant salamanders, about the size of an axolotl.
5:30 This tank contains more giant salamanders, hybrid Chinese Japanese variants. As you can see, these slimy beasts are almost perfectly
camouflaged with the rocks. The folds of skin along their sides allow them to absorb oxygen from within the water despite having lungs.
They have a very large mouth for quickly capturing prey but very small eyes.
6:12 Another view of the aquarium as seen earlier in the video.
6:45 A 2 minute walk away is the rail museum with a large collection of trains and locomotives.
7:22 Here is a 100 series Shinkansen driving car numbered 122-5003.
7:54 The 481 series, 583 series and 500 series Shinkansen driving car from the first set.
8:05 A look at two of the many steam locomotives at the roundhouse.
8:52 Walking along a 4 car train of first two 0 series shinkansen, consisting of cars from the pre production and first production set.
One carriage has a display inside it, there is also a green car, dining car and non reserved car.
10:27 More locomotives and passenger cars.
11:24 The kids especially my son enjoying the rail crossing.
11:57 The rail museum also has a viewing deck where you can watch trains pass by.
12:07 A Tokyo bound N700S series Shinkansen arriving from Shin-Osaka.
12:38 And this is a N700 series Shinkansen rapidly accelerating out of Kyoto bound for Shin-Osaka. The type of train we would ride on.
