This webinar will introduce field technicians to the basic principles of generator protection and generator protective relays. The following protective basic protective functions will be presented:
• Reverse Power (32)
• Loss of Excitation (40)
• Negative Sequence Overcurrent (46)
• Voltage Restrained Overcurrent (51V)
• Neutral Overcurrent and Overvoltage (51N, 59N)
• Blown Fuse or Loss of Potential (60)
• Out of Step (78)
• Under and Over Frequency (81)
• Differential (87)
We will look at the purpose of each basic protective function and explain the general operating principles of the associated relays. We will cover both mechanical and microprocessor based relays.
We will look at one line diagrams showing the locations of generator CT’s, PT’s and associated step up and step down transformers.
