Rudolf Lassel (1861-1918) is a Transylvanian Saxon composer from Brasov/Kronstadt. He studied in Leipzig and composed this fabulous piece, the C minor prelude and fugue at the age of 22. After completing his studies, he returned to his homeland, and from 1887 until his death he was organist of the Black Church in Brasov. Being as well a teacher, conductor and composer, he had a very beneficial influence on the city´s music culture. In Leipzig, he must have been remembered, for he was proposed to become Thomasorganist in 1902. However, Lassel decided to stay in his hometown.
