Years of loose monetary policy have flooded DemocracyCraft with an endless supply of cheap money. Prices of commercial real estate have gone through the roof, as property investors are throwing as much as US$820 for a single Minecraft building. Widespread regulatory failure has allowed the creation of banks and private equity firms that have become too-big-to-fail, tying the fate of its economy to the fate of an individual company.

In response, short sellers have begun aggressively shorting the DC dollar in droves, dumping nearly US$4,700 worth of it by mid-February 2025. The server's US$100,000 financial industry is on the line—the collapse of which could spread financial contagion to connected markets across other Minecraft servers and potentially cause the Minecraft-equivalent of a global financial crisis.
