This footage was recorded as part of an 8-hour video installation made by Stephen Slappe in May 2001. Slappe was responding to the rise of "Reality TV" in the U.S. at the turn of the millennium by presenting a subject on his day off from work in real time without any editing. The video installation, titled "This is your life Chris Bickel!", was shot using a handheld Hi8 camera and the audio was replaced with instrumental soundtracks from movies and television shows.
Toward the end of the video, Bickel expresses an extreme dislike of the band Beat Happening but he assures us that in 2025, he likes the band just fine.
Technical note, in the opening sequence as we pull into the parking lot, Chris was playing Rio by Duran Duran on his car stereo. That song is blocked by copyright on Youtube so I had the Youtube gods replace it with something that I chose at random from the options they presented.
