Here's a little video listening test to compare SACD to Qobuz streaming. Since the Playback Designs MPT-8 SACD Transport has the optional streamer inside, it made the comparison very simple. Same DAC, same volume. These are my reference pieces, and its why I used them.
Ultimately, to my ears, SACD edged out streaming. It seemed to have a more pronounced definition, yet in a smoother, more refined manner. Spatiality seemed a touch more evident.
Since the MPD-8 DAC is a DSD DAC, it plays SACD natively. This means there is no parallel to playing a SACD that was recorded in DSD. (SACD is Sonys name for DSD) same with vinyl or tape rips recorded to DSD, then served locally.
My opinion is this is the peak of digital playback. I find DSD master tape rips at 4xDSD to be indistinguishable from the master tape when both played in the same system.
The System used is Playback Designs MPT-8 streamer/transport, Playback Designs MPD-8 DAC, NAT Audio Magma New monoblock amps, and Fischer&Fischer SN1000.1 speakers. Cables are Verastarr and all under $1000 per pair.
Recording was made on a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra phone, using the phone mics.
the room is treated and has dedicated AC power and power filtration by a Puritan Audio PSM 156..
You can inquire about these products by going to 11stereo.com and calling the number. These products are not sold without a (free) consultation to make sure they are properly placed with the end user.
I represent all the brands in this video. The reason why is that they are my favorite brands, and I like to sell items that in my opinion outperform the competition and make the buyer feel like they got their money's worth.
My goal is to sell you your last audio system.
Thanks for watching !
