The split-screen moment emphasizes the Republican Party’s current dilemma as it faces what is expected to be a competitive midterm election cycle, both in Iowa and around the country.
Republicans won in 2024 by tapping into voter concerns over affordability and the economy, and they’ve set out a midterm strategy that would reprise that message in 2026.
But the deadly shootings this month by federal agents of Minneapolis residents Renee Good and Alex Pretti have once again forcefully shifted the administration’s focus onto the highly controversial issues that have divided the American public.
