Blue Boar lane runs between the Wroxham Road and Salhouse Road in Sprowston, a suburb to the north-east of Norwich.
The route connects Salhouse Road and the White House estate to the major supermarkets, it also connects the Sprowston estate around Linacre Avenue to the new park, which will feature a skate park. It passes the Sports and Social Club, which attracts large numbers of children to club nights and events and it connects all these places to the Harrison's Wood nature reserve. It has the potential to be a very well used route.
The shared use path we have now was funded by the developer Persimmon Homes and built by contractors working for Norfolk County Council. The scheme went through all the council's planning processes including safety audits, so it's fair comment to claim the Norfolk County Council is responsible for the terrible result we see today.
The design standard for cycle infrastructure known as LTN 1/20 has been in force for over four years - before this scheme went out to consultation - but there is no attempt to comply with the standard.
This video was recorded shortly after completion of the route in August and again in October 2024. It has two sections, riding the route during the day and at dusk.
