This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Western swing is an infectious and uniquely American music. In this upbeat performance, Katie Glassman and Snapshot demonstrate incredible chops and dazzling charm as they marry the soul of old-time Western music with contemporary songwriting and musicianship.
Katie Glassman's love affair with the fiddle began at the tender age of nine. Inspired by old-time Texas music, she began playing by ear, and was soon winning honors throughout the West. But Katie is no one trick pony when it comes to fiddling. She studied classical and jazz violin at the University of Colorado in Boulder, graduating with a bachelors in music performance and a certificate in jazz studies. In 2007 she became only the second American to attend the Centre Musique Didier Lockwood in France, the world's foremost jazz violin school.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
