Hiking season in the North Cascades is short, and even during our late August 2018 visit we still saw patches of snow on the trail. We hiked about 2 miles (3.2 km) out and back, although you can continue exploring the plateau once you reach the top of Table Mountain. We were excited to have our friend Carrie visiting and to share this hike with her. The trail is steep during the first half mile and gains most of its elevation quickly, but the views are well worth the climb.
From the summit, you can enjoy spectacular vistas of Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan, and even Baker Lake to the south. Mt. Baker is one of the 10 most active and potentially hazardous volcanoes in the continental United States, whereas Mt. Shuksan is a mountain, not a volcano.
Parking for the hike: Artist’s Point
Vaulted bathroom at trailhead. No water.
