The importance of adjusting the timing or velocity of orthodonitc tooth movement during aligner therapy to the properties of the chosen material and the patient’s rate of bone remodeling is seldom emphasized. However, this factor is crucial to ensuring that the prescribed movements take place as intended and to optimizing treatment outcomes in the shortest possible time. Understanding and managing the interplay among biokinetics, biomechanics, biomaterials, and bioregulation is fundamental to success, yet these considerations may or may not align with both the software-programmed movements and the prescribed staging. Much remains to be learned before a fully predictable treatment environment can be achieved using aligner therapy.
