Siobhan Haughey, who at just 26 years old is Hong Kong’s most decorated Olympian, reflects on her life in and out of the pool. After winning bronze in both the 100-metre and 200-metre freestyle events at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, bringing her total medal count to four, she took her first long break from swimming in years.
While Haughey is in top form physically, she also makes sure to prioritise her mental well-being. The pressure to succeed can weigh heavily on her, so she takes time out to do things that calm her mind, such as reading, meditation and journaling.
She has also developed habits that help her wind down before bedtime, as she understands that a good night’s sleep is important for both her body and mind.
She believes that achieving well-being does not require drastic changes – simply thinking of what makes you happy and freeing a little time for that can go a long way.
Check out the video to hear more of what she has to say about finding a more balanced life.
