RTÉ News reports on the death of renowned Irish architect Hugh Wallace. A native of Dundrum in South Dublin, Wallace became a familiar face to hundreds of thousands of television viewers through his appearances on programmes such as "The Great House Revival" and "My Bungalow Bliss", in addition to his role as a long-serving judge on RTÉ's "Home of the Year", appearing in every season of the show from its launch in 2015 until his death in 2025.
Outside television, Wallace was a founding partner of Dublin-based practice Douglas Wallace Architects, which he helped build into one of Ireland's best-known design consultancies. Over his long career, Wallace worked on hotels, retail spaces and homes around the country and often spoke about the role of good design in creating a sense of place and belonging.
Wallace died unexpectedly at his Dublin home on 30th November 2025, just 12 days short of his 69th birthday.
