Manipur Violence Explained : Analytical Breakdown for UPSC CSE | NEXT IAS

The conflict in Manipur has escalated again, with recent incidents of violence and protests adding to the turmoil. Due to the escalation of violence, a curfew has been imposed in the Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts on 10th September 2024.

Over 200 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and adjoining hills-based Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023.

Tensions between the Kukis and Meiteis have become fairly evident since the time Kukis started adamantly demanding a separate administration amid allegations of a partisan state government.
