Developing and deploying new materials to address global safety challenges is central to the pioneering work of Materials Discovery Research Institute Executive Director Stuart Miller, Ph.D., and MDRI research scientists Jeff Wu, Ph.D., and Uzoma Nwabara, Ph.D. MDRI’s cutting-edge, digital-first lab is a pivotal resource in advancing safety science and clean energy. By integrating computational, theoretical, and materials chemistry with advanced characterization and data science, MDRI provides a robust platform for tackling complex scientific challenges. This multidisciplinary approach supports the design, synthesis, and real-world testing of innovative materials.
An important focus of MDRI’s research is the development of green hydrogen, a clean energy source produced without carbon emissions. Although hydrogen has been essential in various sectors for years, transitioning to green hydrogen faces challenges, particularly its high cost as compared to fossil fuel-derived hydrogen, the MDRI team members say. MDRI is dedicated to overcoming these hurdles by discovering new materials that reduce production costs, enhancing the commercial viability of green hydrogen.
The institute's work pursues a sustainable, clean energy future, with the potential to profoundly impact the global economy and improve environmental health.
