This video shows the rail kart testing third rail shoe clearance while it operated with a 24 volt Kobalt Lithium Li-ion battery on a private railway in Eastern PA.. The cart was used on many 2ft railways. The unit will be modified to operate on third rail power, at 36vdc to 48vdc. This test is for larger equipment that will be powered using the third rail system. Also different types of rail will be evaluated to determine the best source of power.
The rail kart has a 12vdc motor, currently overvolted at 24vdc, with pinon gear driving a large gear on the axle. It has a scooter control system and on-off throttle. It will soon have a control system that can operate from 12-60 volts.
