Colour Gets All The Glory - Values Do All the Work!

Hello dear Sketchers and Artists,

I am always looking for ways to explain the concept of values better. You may remember a video I did lately about sketching cakes: I was frustrated by the appearance of the cakes until the last minute, when I used a black biro (ballpoint) to bring in some darks, thereby making the lights lighter and the whole simply better and more convincing. So then I wondered about making a complete sketch with a biro, followed by one in watercolour: I figured it would be a handy "in" for sketchers.

I did this in class with my Sketch Club and they found it really illuminating. Unfortunately I can't give you access to that class, as it's for my Sketch Club members only, but you can always access that one, and other past classes, simply by retroactively paying the same charge per month my students paid at the time, which is €50.
