Fion Phua has been knocking on doors since she was 16. What began as weekend visits to rental flats with her then-boyfriend, now her husband, became a lifelong mission. Every Sunday, she leads 20–30 volunteers into rental flats and hoarding homes across Singapore, helping elderly and vulnerable residents with daily tasks — from fixing lights, cutting toenails of the elderly to cleaning homes untouched for decades. She founded Keeping Hope Alive to organise the work, asking not for money, but for volunteers to offer their time, skills and heart. What few know is that Fion is slowly losing her sight — one eye blind, the other failing. Yet she keeps going, believing that as long as people suffer quietly, someone must still knock.
