India's state-owned oil company, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), has decided to source crude oil from Abu Dhabi instead of Russia following US sanctions. According to Reuters, the company has purchased two million barrels of Upper Zakum grade crude oil from Abu Dhabi for December loading. This oil will be sourced from the trading division of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
Last week, the US imposed new sanctions on Russia's two largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, accused of financially supporting the Ukrainian war. Following this, several Indian oil companies, particularly BPCL, have begun re-evaluating their deals with Russian suppliers. A BPCL official stated that the company will now only purchase oil from Russian entities not on the US sanctions list.
