Here's a teaching procedure I used that worked REALLY well with my primary kids before the winter break.
Songs are fantastic to use in the classroom, but mainstream songs that aren’t designed for teaching can include a lot of complex language that goes beyond the level of our young learners…..and they tend to be pretty long.
So….we need to scaffold the teaching of them if we want them to be able to enjoy singing it and not just identifying the odd word or phrase.
In the video, I talk you through the steps I took. Maybe you’ve tried something similar and if you haven’t, give it a go and let me know how it goes.
P.S. If you like these type of ‘sharing’ videos, you might like the weekly Show and Tells in the Kids Club English Teaching Community. They’re a bit longer - usually between 10 to 15 minutes so we can go into more detail, and the members share their take on things afterwards. It’s a really effective and motivating way to share ideas. You can come and see for yourself at the Kids Club English Open Day on the 26th-27th Jan. Sign-up on the Kids Club English website.
