Mallorca is a beautiful island in the mediterranean sea. The north part of the island boasts some of the most beautiful hiking in the mediterranean. One of the most popular hiking trails in mallorca is GR221, which runs through the northern mountain range and its various villages from one side of the island to the other. It takes roughly around ten days to complete. However, since we don't have that much time here, we will be hiking only the juiciest bit of this trail. starting in Valldemossa, going up to the beautiful cami de s'Arxiduc, then going off the official GR221 and continuing along the peaks of the mountains all the way to the town of Soller. This is not how the GR221 is normally hiked. The road from Valldemossa to Soller would normally be a 2 day hike with a stop in the small town of Deia. However, ours is a custom route, a long and ambitious one. It borrows heavily from other, less travelled trails, which apparently exist according to AllTrails database. We will be skipping Deia and walking straight to Soller, all the while enjoying every single peak of every single mountain on the way. But are the hypothetically breathtaking views worth the risks of walking on the roads less traveled? Or are we about to discover that we have bitten off a little more than we can chew and are about to dive head first into an adventure with dangers and hazards that we have both severely underestimated?
