Traveling along the Qionghai section of Hainan’s Round-the-Island Tourist Highway, we arrive in Boao Town. Here lies Liuke Village, widely known as “Hainan’s No.1 Overseas Chinese Village”. The Cai Family Residence, the largest and most prominent home in the village, has seen a steady flow of visitors in recent years, driven by the influence of the Boao Forum for Asia and the development of the tourist highway.
Today, Cai Wang Pujun, the wife of a grandson from the Cai family’s eldest branch, leads a full and busy life. As 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the Cai Family Residence, she hopes that more visitors will come to appreciate the distinctive local character of Qionghai and its natural blending of local traditions with Nanyang culture, gain insight into a remarkable chapter of overseas Chinese history, and carry with them a lasting sense of connection to this ancestral hometown.
