উমাইয়া বংশের পতনের পরপরই বৈশ্বিক রাজনৈতিক পাদপ্রদীপ থেকে দূরে সরে যায় আরব উপদ্বীপ। সুগঠিত রাষ্ট্রকাঠামোর অনুপস্থিতিতে প্রায় স্বাধীনভাবে শাসনকার্য পরিচালনা করেন বিভিন্ন গোত্রের প্রধানেরা, বিভিন্ন সময়ে সংঘর্ষে জড়ায় আরব উপদ্বীপের আশেপাশে বসবাস করা গোষ্ঠীগুলো। উসমানীয় সাম্রাজ্যের উত্থানের পরে আরব উপদ্বীপ চলে যায় উসমানীয় সরকারের অধীনে, বেশ কয়েকবার সেখানে এই সাম্রাজ্যকে হটাতে বিদ্রোহ হলেও উসমানীয়দের পতনের আগপর্যন্ত আরব উপদ্বীপ তাদের অধীনেই ছিল।

আরব উপদ্বীপের ক্রমাগত গোষ্ঠীকলহ আর বিচ্ছিন্নতার ইতিহাসকে সঙ্গী করে উত্থান ঘটে সৌদ বংশের। পুরো উনবিংশ শতাব্দীজুড়ে সৌদ বংশ চেষ্টা করে আরব উপদ্বীপে নিজেদের অবস্থান প্রতিষ্ঠিত করতে। তাদের প্রায় সবগুলো চেষ্টাই ব্যর্থ হয় উসমানীয় সাম্রাজ্যের রাজনৈতিক আর সামরিক নেতৃত্বের কাছে। সৌদ বংশের চেষ্টা সফল হয় উসমানীয় সাম্রাজ্যের পতনের পর, প্রথম বিশ্বযুদ্ধ-পরবর্তী রাজনৈতিক পরিবর্তনের সুযোগে তারা প্রতিষ্ঠা করে নিজেদের স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্র, কিংডম অব সৌদি আরাবিয়া। বেদুইন শেখ, আবদুল আজিজ বিন আবদুল রহমান বিন ফয়সাল বিন তুর্কি বিন আব্দুল্লাহ বিন মোহাম্মদ আল সৌদ, অবস্থার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে আর নিজের প্রজ্ঞায় বিরাট এক রাজ্য স্থাপন করতে সক্ষম হন।
