mtDNA Haplogroups

mtDNA haplogroup names can be long or short, depending on your mtDNA profile. But there is a correlation between the name you see and the history of your direct maternal line. Think of each letter or number like a common ancestor you share with others a very very very long time ago. In my example, you are related to someone in haplogroup K2a3b4 at ancestor "K" and to someone in haplogroup K1b1a2c at ancestor "K1b1."
