Fix Your MacBook Air A2179 Screen CHEAP $150 DIY Step by Step

Save big and fix it yourself! In this video I show step-by-step how to replace the screen on a MacBook Air A2179 (2020) at home for around $170 using a replacement display assembly.

What you’ll need: replacement A2179 display assembly, P5 pentalobe driver, small Torx drivers (T3/T5), spudger, tweezers, suction cup, microfiber cloth, isopropyl alcohol, and patience.

Quick Step-by-Step
1. Back up & power down. Unplug everything.
2. Remove bottom case with P5 screws; pop clips carefully.
3. Disconnect the battery before touching display cables.
4. Lift brackets & disconnect display flex (use a spudger—no metal).
5. Free antenna/wifi bar if present and loosen hinge screws.
6. Remove the damaged display assembly and set aside.
7. Install the new display, align hinges, set even gaps, then tighten.
8. Reconnect display flex and reconnect battery.
9. Reattach bottom case; check that clips seat flush.
10. Boot & test: brightness, camera, mic, lid sensor, and color tint.

Tip: If the screen stays black, reset NVRAM/SMC and recheck cable seating. Don’t overtighten hinge screws—snug and even.
