I don't normally have myself talking in my videos. I don't like hearing myself talk and I don't really care if it helps me with views. I just like posting videos of interesting places to land so people can see the approach and maybe gain some insight in case they want to land there too. That being said, I decided to post this to show my first test with an add-on mic that transforms a set of consumer headphones into an aviation headset. I found this company making these out of Quebec (no affiliation at all with me). The price was great so I gave it a try. My goal was to have a ANC headset for my passengers without spending the extortion price for another Bose A20. I paired up the mic with a Sony 1000XM4 I found for a great price on FB Marketplace. I paid $220 CDN for the headphones and $137.50 CDN for the mic. I bought two of them for $275 since I plan to make another headset for rear passengers. They are $199 each if you only buy one. Still way less than the $250ish US for the one from NCflight in the US. Results were pleasantly surprising. The Sony XM4 was not that far off my Bose a20 for noise cancelling and the mic was very responsive. A few little quirks in setting it up. Volume knobs need to be turned all the way in opposite directions for my mono intercom. Also you need to make sure the mic is oriented correctly. Once set up the mic was as good or better than my Bose at picking up my voice. I would highly recommend this setup and although I'll use it primarily as a passenger set, even in my loud Piper it could easily be used as a primary everyday headset. On their website they have a list of recommended headphones to use.
