Utah running back Del "Popcorn" Rodgers opened the game with an 87-yard touchdown run but it wouldn't take long for BYU to take control.Jim McMahon passed for 565 yards, 4 touchdowns and no interceptions and tight end Gordon Hudson caught 13 passes for an NCAA record 259 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 56-28 Cougar victory. The win clinched the WAC Title for BYU.
