Political strategist Lito Banayo told #OnPoint with Pinky Webb that the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte appears to be part of a “concerted demolition campaign” against a leading contender for the 2028 presidential race.
He said the moves against her seem reactionary and lacking in strategic planning, noting that even if the trial had started early, “Sara would also have been acquitted” due to the political realities in the Senate, especially with re-electionist senators relying on Mindanao and Visayas votes.
Now, with the case thrown into the 20th Congress and possibly headed to the Supreme Court, Banayo warned that the impeachment process may enter a political limbo.
